Buying Vintage

Every item on By Design Modern has its own unique history. Some vintage pieces may show signs of use and wear, such as small scratches, dents, or irregularities in color or material. Depending on the age and origin, these signs may be more or less visible. These signs do not constitute a defect but are an integral part of the personal history of each piece.

We take care to clearly describe the condition of each item. Please read this information on the object pages carefully, as well as taking note of the photographic evidence provided, before purchase.

 To protect yourself from disappointment or something unexpected, we strongly encourage you to closely inspect item, photos, description, and details before purchasing anything and then upon delivery or pickup.  If you are unsure about an item’s condition, dimensions or description please contact us by email at  info@bydesignmodern.com or by phone at 604-876-5215.

 

Returns and Cancellations for Instore Purchases

Sale items and custom orders are not eligible for return.

Customers have 24 hours receipt of item to notify the store of the return for a full refund in the original method of payment.  Item must be returned within 3 days of being taken from store.

If the item has not left the store the customer has 5 days from date of purchase to cancel the purchase for a full refund unless otherwise agreed upon.  Custom orders are not eligible for cancellation.

All returns must be accompanied by the original receipt and in original condition.

Please note that depending on your card issuer’s policy, it may take up to 10 business days for your refund to appear on your credit statement.

 

Returns for Online Purchases

Sale items and custom orders are not eligible for return.

You can return an item up to 10 days after you have received your goods.  To initiate a return, email By Design Modern at info@bydesignmodern.com.  In your return request, please include the reason for the return, your invoice number, the best phone number to call you on, and photos of any damage to the item.

In case of a return, the cost of delivery (i.e. outbound delivery) is non-refundable, unless By Design Modern finds the item was damaged in transportation or determines the listing was inaccurate, misleading or misrepresented the item.

In case of a return, the customer is liable for, all associated costs with returning an item (ie. packaging, return shipping, insurance, etc.), unless By Design Modern finds the item was damaged in transportation or determines the listing was inaccurate, misleading or misrepresented the item.

Returned goods must be packed and sent at the customer’s expense to:  By Design Modern, 915 Cotton Dr, Vancouver, BC V6J 1L5 CANADA.

Please note if the return is being made from outside of Canada the customer is also responsible for all customs and duty fees and forms associated with the return.

The returned item will be inspected within 3 days of arriving at our store.  Once we have determined it is in original condition we will process your return and issue a refund.

By Design Modern cannot be held responsible if an item of furniture cannot gain access to or does not fit in its intended space.  We strongly recommend that you measure all access areas prior to making a purchase.

By Design Modern is not liable for any damage or loss sustained in transit via third parties.

 

Changes and Cancellations for Online Purchases

If you wish to change the delivery address of your order, please contact us as soon as possible.  It is easier for us to make the changes prior to the item being dispatched.

If you wish to cancel your order before the goods have left our store you will receive a full refund.  If you cancel your order once the item has left our store it will be treated as a return.  Please see above section for Returns for Online Purchases.

 

Sales Tax

By Design Modern is located in British Columbia, Canada. We must charge GST and PST on all orders fulfilled to customers in B.C. Sales made and shipped to customers in other provinces are charged HST if they are subject to HST in their province, or just GST otherwise.

Orders taken and shipped to customers in other countries, including the USA, are exempt from all Canadian taxes, but may be subject to their own tax laws.

 

Fulfilment of Orders Placed Online

By Design Modern attempts to fulfill all customer orders as quickly as possible and generally ship our orders out 5 – 10 business days from the time of purchase.  If the customer requests a specific delivery date at time of purchase By Design Modern will try to fulfill the order as close to that date as possible.

Once your order has shipped we will contact you by email with the tracking number and estimated date of delivery.

Please note if you request a specific delivery date that is more than 30 days from time of purchase we will charge a nominal fee per month based on the size of the piece.
